Board Leadership in Nursing, Personal Experience

Nursing organizations play a significant in revolutionizing the quality of care available to different patients. They collaborate with like-minded institutions and non-governmental agencies to engage in advocacy and present new concepts to transform practice. Practitioners should make appropriate preparations before being involved in such civic organizations. This paper describes how I plan to become part of such institutions.

Personal Involvement

My membership and engagement in some of the nursing professional organizations means that I will get a new opportunity to formulate policies and engage in advocacy to transform the nature of medical practice. The first step will be to identify the right institutions that pursue new developments, procedures, and clinical procedures to maximize patients’ experiences (Harris, 2016). I will analyze some of the existing agencies and institutions in my state that require additional professionals in their respective boards. This achievement will become a new opportunity for me to pursue my professional goals.

The second phase will be to engage in lifelong learning in order to have a clear understanding of my responsibilities before joining such agencies. It will be necessary to consider the achievements of different institutions, the activities board members undertake, and the skills required to achieve positive results. This knowledge will guide me to develop additional competencies that resonate with the nursing objectives and missions of the targeted organizations. This practice will make it easier for me to formulate a superior leadership philosophy (Committee on the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Initiative on the Future of Nursing, 2010). Additionally, I will consider the importance of improving my decision-making, problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical competencies. Such attributes will ensure that my contributions to the selected organization are significant.

The third stage is to apply for emerging positions or vacancies in different nursing or civic institutions. I will link with my colleagues, friends, and workmates to identify new organizations that can support my expectations. I will consider different associations and apply for membership, such as the American Nurses Foundation (American Nurses Association, n.d.). The reasoning behind this choice is that such an agency focuses on the most appropriate strategies to increase the number of professionals serving on different boards (Harris, 2016). The institution will make it possible for me to achieve the intended goals. The organization will also equip me with the right resources, ideas, and approaches to record meaningful results as a board member.

The final phase will revolve around my obligations and responsibilities after joining different institutions. As a board member, I will apply my competencies to support the agency’s goals and engage in advocacy. I will review the performance of different partners and ensure that their actions are aimed at delivering sustainable results (Harris, 2016). I will be part of the developed team to enhance the organization’s image, promote emerging issues and guidelines, and consider new strategies that can improve the effectiveness of the nursing sector. This kind of involvement will play a significant role towards promoting the quality of medical services available to more citizens in the country.

Conclusion

The above discussion has described my action plan for becoming involved in various civic or nursing professional organizations. I will be keen to develop the most appropriate competencies, partner with other stakeholders, and complete my roles diligently as a board member. Such initiatives means that more patients in the United States will achieve their health goals much faster and eventually transform the image of the entire health care sector.
