Christianity and Its Effects on Western Civilization

Introduction

Christianity became one of the main factors that influenced the formation of Western civilization. Throughout the long history of human existence, this religion has influenced social norms in society, political institutions, and the cultural customs of man. Christianity gave mankind the basis to understand how the world and man as a person, and without this knowledge, it is impossible to create a solid moral foundation for society.

Discussion

Christianity has played a decisive role in developing Western philosophy, jurisprudence, and the concept of natural law, which is now the basis of the modern rights system. The decline of Christianity led to a crisis of Western civilization, which can be confirmed by historical evidence (Merutiu and Institute for Interdisciplinary Research). These factors include the development of science and education in the West, which is due to the fact that before, there were no schools as institutions where people could receive a quality education. Since children and adults received their basic knowledge in monasteries and universities, they became centers of academic research and citizen training.

The development of Christianity also influenced literature and was one of the reasons for the emergence of the great works of art and music that define Western civilization. Emphasizing the values of the individual as an individual is the basis for the emergence of democracy and the protection of human rights. However, the decline of Christianity in Western culture has led to a crisis of meaning and purpose in human life, which can be overcome only by the enunciation of Christian values (Merutiu and Institute for Interdisciplinary Research). These values were the foundation of Western civilization, so only the renewal of faith can bring man closer to understanding the world and himself from a moral standpoint.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is essential to note that Christianity has shaped its moral and ethical values. Today’s development of philosophy, law, literature, and art is also due to Christianity, which became their original source of origin. Despite the crisis of civilization, which is theoretically linked to the decline of religion, it is necessary to preserve and renew the foundations of Western culture by updating human beliefs.
