It should be noted that DSS is aimed primarily at interactive interaction with business, in particular, with the management of an organization or project. This tool allows management to modernly and efficiently obtain the necessary information from primary sources for its subsequent analysis (Finn, 2021). It helps to identify the necessary and most appropriate business model applicable to the organization in a given period (Finn, 2021). In other words, DSS allows for identifying a strategy that will be most effective for fulfilling the tasks assigned to the specialists in the firm.
However, care must be taken when interacting with DSS, which is predetermined by several factors. Firstly, the system is autonomous, that is, it works without the participation of an individual in the algorithms (Finn, 2021). This can lead to the fact that such a tool may not take into account some aspects and subtleties of the situation, which means that it is wrong to choose a model. This will lead to a significant decrease in the efficiency of all activities, as well as an increase in costs or the emergence of risks (Finn, 2021). Secondly, each situation is unique and irreplaceable, while DSS can offer only a few solutions. Accordingly, management needs to check and reform the solution proposed by the system (Finn, 2021). The fact is that complete reliance on the options offered by the DSS is destructive since only an individual with a flexible mind can most effectively assess the complex problems and conditions of the business. This explains that DSS solutions are not universal, and professionals need to use systems as a vector of thinking, but not a ready-made answer.
To most vividly demonstrate the application of DSS in practice, it is necessary to consider several scenarios. The first is a typical business situation, where there is a staff turnover. In this case, management uses DSS to solve the problem of finding specialists. The system is capable of offering several options for effective employment by highly qualified professionals (Information Resources Management Association, 2021). However, the tool does not provide the reasons for the turnover, and solves the issue, ignoring the main problem (Information Resources Management Association, 2021). As a result, the ready-made solution is ineffective because workers continue to change quickly (Finn, 2021). The second scenario is a company that needs to work with large amounts of information. In this case, there is an overload of processed data, which leads to a decrease in the efficiency of the overall operation of the DSS system. The third scenario is a company in which the DSS works correctly and efficiently. In this case, professionals become dependent on the tool, losing their qualifications (Information Resources Management Association, 2021). The fact is that the maximum effectiveness of such a tool removes the incentive and specialists to carry out tasks independently.
An unusual scenario should also be analyzed, which is the use of DSS by physicians. Although medicine is not a business activity, the decision-making stage is relevant among doctors. DSS helps in the analysis of, for example, population health data. However, it is worth emphasizing that each patient is unique because he has characteristics that predetermine his condition (Finn, 2021). DSS does not separate individuals but unites them according to common features (Finn, 2021). This leads to the fact that the health care system can draw incorrect conclusions about the actual problems of the population in the field of health.
Despite all of the above, it is worth highlighting the main advantages of DSS. First of all, the most effective function of the system is to reduce the training time of experts (Information Resources Management Association, 2021). This is explained by the fact that DSS is a set of algorithms and rules that are implemented within a single program. When applying the tool in practice, the specialist analyzes how methods are applied to increase efficiency (Finn, 2021). Thus, interactive learning is obtained, which is extremely beneficial in terms of time (Finn, 2021).
