Electric Vehicles vs. Traditional Cars

The growing popularity of electric vehicles (EVs) makes people switch to them at a rapid pace. As the price of gasoline continues to grow, understanding the benefits of EVs becomes more crucial, even if a person does not seek to reduce their environmental impact. There are hindrances in people’s understanding of the benefits of EVs stemming from insufficient knowledge of their inner workings. This research paper will compare electric and gasoline cars for their time- and cost-efficiency.

The primary concern of many drivers when they select a car is its price. New EVs are often significantly more expensive than traditional options, with almost a $10,000 difference on average (Lindwall, 2022). At the same time, their users gain long-term money savings. There is a tax credit of up to $7,500 based on EV’s lessened environmental impact, and their owners spend at least $500 less on fuel per year (Lindwall, 2022). The worst-case scenarios for refueling from zero to the full provide a simple comparison between electric and gasoline cars. An average EV takes approximately 10 hours to fully charge, while a gasoline-run vehicle requires only 10 minutes (Oreizi, 2020). However, it is essential to consider how vehicle owners spend their time during charging. While an EV often charges overnight at home, a gasoline car requires a driver’s constant attention, thus taking more valuable time on refueling (Oreizi, 2020). Therefore, gasoline cars may be more distracting for the majority of users.

In conclusion, modern EVs are similarly efficient in many parameters as traditional vehicles, although they require additional manipulations to become comparable. At first glance, EVs may be at a disadvantage, yet this judgment is incorrect. There are long-term benefits of using an electric vehicle, despite its initial high price, including tax credits and fuel costs. Moreover, people can optimize their time spent on refueling by leaving EVs to charge overnight.
