Psychological research carried out shows that offenders may have developed some unlawful acts that led to their arrest and conviction, or may end up developing some immoral conducts while serving their imprisonment terms in jail. However, some treatment programs offered to prisoners while serving their imprisonment term prove to be crucial in managing prisoners conducts. For instance, majority of the inmates undertaking the correction programs end up developing right behaviors that boost their right lifestyle while under custody.
In addition, offender correction programs play a prominent role in reducing the offender’s unlawful behaviors by a great percentage; this is from the research carried on the released individuals (APA Online, 2008). Majority of the prisoners who had access to correction programs end up suiting well in the society, research shows that these individuals also play a significant role in enacting the society on the essence of abiding to state laws, hence leading to reduction of criminal cases in the society. For instance, researches carried out by psychologists portray that correction programs offered to the prisoners reduce the recidivism, therapeutic issues and sex crimes by some percentage in the community.
However, despite the programs offered to the offenders while in custody proving so influential in trimming individual conducts some individuals may end up not changing for the good, thus resulting to recidivism cases in a state.
Recidivism cases, grant the psychological professionals offering correction programs to the convicts in the rehabilitation centers, the role of incorporating strategies that are essential in administering correctional treatment to their clients. Psychological professionals have also the role of ensuring that the released convicts have gathered enough knowledge and understanding for them to fit in the society. In addition, it is the role of the psychological professionals to ensure that all convicts assigned to him or her access the correction programs within the speculated time hence succeeding in meeting the set goals of the rehabilitation programs.
Psychological professionals have also some responsibilities to play, and among them include creating awareness to the offenders on the essence of having moral conducts while in the society. They also have the responsibility of enlightening the convicts on the consequences of repeating mistakes that might lead them to jailing. Through creating awareness on the convicts on the essence of having irreproachable morals, the professional psychologists succeed in reducing the crime rates in the society.
In addition, the information gained by the released prisoners on the effects of drugs contributes substantially to the reduction of crimes in the state. It is also the responsibility of the professional psychologists to ensure that the released convicts have effective cohesion with individuals within the community. They achieve these by creating friendly relationship between the community and the prisoners through allowing free association of the prisoners and the community members.
