Throughout history, people often used various types of food and drink to enrich their diets and become stronger and healthier. Nowadays, the issue of weight loss is more topical than it has ever been, with many individuals going to great lengths to get closer to their desired shape. With a large number of developed food supplements and additives, both natural and artificial, dietary products are often used by people. One of the most notable examples of such a product is Garcinia Cambogia, famous for its potential to aid in the reduction of weight. Although many would consider the fruit to be an effective solution to their problem, its actual effectiveness is questionable. This essay seeks to review the available information on the subject to determine whether Garcinia Cambogia aids weight loss.
The evidence collected through testing suggests that there is no substantial correlation between consuming Garcinia Cambogia and weight loss. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), 2017 has compiled and analyzed the results of several tests regarding the effectiveness of the fruit. The organization notes that while Garcinia Cambogia has been promoted as an effective solution to problems with weight, examinations have failed to find a correlation between its ingestion and weight loss (NCCIH, 2017). Their research states that “There’s no convincing evidence that garcinia cambogia will help you lose weight or control cholesterol”, which is supported by multiple studies (NCCIH, 2017). The conducted tests suggest that the positive effects of Garcinia Cambogia are being exaggerated by the public.
Furthermore, an informational article from both Healthline.com and the paper published in Nutrición Hospitalaria, 2015 also emphasizes the unreliable effects of the fruit. The former explains that Garcinia Cambogia is known to have anti-obesity properties, and can reduce food intake by making one feel full (Kubala, 2020). The scholarly paper examining the issue also mentions that the fruit’s effect was unreliable, concluding that Garcinia Cambogia’s impact on weight loss has to be further studied (Fassina, et al., 2015, pp. 145). The effect, while appearing to be present, does not seem to be strong enough to influence a person’s weight in a meaningful way.
In conclusion, it appears that Garcinia Cambogia has a minimal impact on instigating the weight loss of a person, and its effects are considerably exaggerated. While this conclusion is supported by documented evidence, one of the flaws of most tests must also be mentioned. Seemingly many trials were run with a small sample size, and their conclusions might not reflect the actual effects of the fruitfully. All in all, the anti-obesity effects of Garcinia Cambogia are unproven, with further tests needed to determine its effectiveness reliably.
