How Popular Culture Influences Morality in Society

Popular culture is an initiative that was established to give voice to the common masses through various forms of media such as magazines, TV shows, sports, folklore, fashion, pop music, paintings, and technology, among others. In understanding how popular culture influences ethics, it is essential to assess how TV information affects individuals. The article titled “Readers on morality: Don’s let TV be guide,” reveals much insight regarding what most content consumers feel about popular TV shows.

Respondents had mixed reactions regarding what they captured from their favorite TV shows. In one instance, the respondent claimed that his daughter likes dancing but cannot let her watch the “Dancing with the Stars” show since women in the show wear inappropriate clothes than local hookers (“Readers on morality”). Another respondent claimed that people are determined to take cues from a television show about what moral code to consider. However, he expressed his surprise why the majority would they opt for morally corrupt media as the main source rather than the Bible (“Readers on morality”). The last respondent argued that people should observe the ratings to avoid exposing children to inappropriate content.

Pop culture is connected to morality and ethics as a basis of influence or a judgment object. It is known to mirror cultural values and recommend to society regarding the right the behavior. Admittedly, the pop culture has significance impact on individuals; at least five credible sources will be evaluated to explore how popular culture influences morality in society.
