How to Fix Sex Education in the United States

Introduction

There is a substantial rate of the younger generation and, more significantly, the teenagers that exhibit active physiological status of the reproductive system across the United States. It couples with the problem that teenagers started to be highly secretive about their sexual life (Heller 36). The level and activity of these teenagers pose a significant danger and threat to society through the increase in the prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). The current situation of sex education within the United States creates an easy way for unwanted and early pregnancies to be elucidated in younger girls.

In the current curriculums on sex education in different schools, the learning is mostly based on the magnitude of abstinence, which is considered to be inadequate for the level at which the effects of sex are evident. The better and more effective practice of understanding the underlying impact of sex should be enhanced. One of the solutions for this is equipping the stipulated teens with comprehensive sexual education to more excellent health and practice of sexual activities. According to Salas, the main topics for discussion in curricula on sex education include seven principles: sexual reproductive health, values-culture, skills for health, rights and sexuality, violence and safety, gender empathy, sexual behavior, and relationships (668). These principles should lay on the ground of sex education designated for the prevention of unwanted pregnancies and STDs.

Implementation of Sexual Education Across the U.S.

The implementation of comprehensive sexual education within the United States can be accomplished and enhanced through a broad and diverse way that advocates for the youths’ interests within society. This can be done and handled by modernizing sexual education within the designated nation in all the learning institutions across the country. The prescribed form of education can be initiated and introduced by teaching teenagers about the magnitude of relationships among individuals exhibiting sexual tension within the community. Once the teenagers are aware of the underlying nature of relationships, it will be easy to safely handle the activities that emerge from the relationships. Alternatively, teenagers can be subjected to the nature of education that focuses on their safety during sexual activities and other factors minimizing violence that can threaten their health.

One of the crucial steps is to abandon federal funding for abstinence-only policies initiated by Congress policies. The type of sexual education that currently plays a role in the depicted figures does not reflect the primary aim affecting the youth. It is clear that teenagers are sexually active, and it is difficult to control their urges. The most logical and appropriate step is to encourage teenagers to learn about contraception and possible issues regarding sexual life. The current education system does not provide teenagers with the element of reproductive health on matters of copulation. It creates a harsh environment for teenagers to understand their mistakes even when they have committed something within the community. According to Salas, “Erotophobic people display feelings of guilt and have negative reactions to masturbation and homosexuality” (671). The major problem that the abstinence-only education system exhibits are the failure to provide its main aim to teenagers because they do not practice abstinence in a real-world setting.

The federal funding for sexual education exhibited a dynamic feature that involved abstinence-only for most teenagers and youth incorporated into the program. There are diverse streams of federal funding for sexual education that are evidence-based and medical procedures. Some of the designated programs under the plan include the Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) and the Teens Pregnancy Prevention Program (TPPP). These programs can be adopted under the comprehensive sexual education program to enable teenagers to exhibit a healthy and stable sexual life. The designated programs will enhance understanding of gender and sexual behavior through mentoring and training. The educators are taught how to deliver the content and the knowledge of comprehensive sex education to teenagers.

Desirable Actions or Policies

The practices listed further may be relevant to the issue of sex education and unplanned pregnancy prevention. The Healthy Youth Access and Real Education Act’s passing increases annual funding for TPP to $ 150 million and PREP for approximately five years (Federally Funded Sex Education). It will increase the coverage and participation of the teenagers in the program. The underlying programs will act as channels for comprehensive sexual education within the United States. An increase in funding for the program will ensure comprehensive education has been adopted across the nation for all teenagers.

The activities of the two programs will be improved over a wide range of networks due to the capital that facilitates the operations. The government should also make it mandatory for every teenager within the learning institutions to learn the comprehensive sexual education unit. It will ensure that all the teenagers that pass through the education system exhibit a wide range of knowledge regarding sexual activities and copulation. It will ensure that all the youth and teenagers gain information on safe ways of engaging in sexual activities.

The Impact of Proposed Actions or Policies on the Current State of Affairs

The current state of affairs within some of the states within the United States exhibits a dynamic shift of experiences in that they want the consent of comprehensive sexual education to be incorporated into the sex education standards. The state of affairs within the level of sexual education can be improved by introducing the aspect of effective language regarding consent and the health status of the relationships. Most states around the region exhibit a modernization affair for the standards by teaching the lessons online. The modernization of comprehensive sex education will provide a broad network for designated individuals and teenagers to gain knowledge. According to Brown and Quirk (4), “Educating students about the risks of distributing explicit material online is crucial as teens are sexting, or sending sexually suggestive or explicit messages by phone, at increasing rates. The curricula of sex education courses should correspond to the modern trends among teenagers because the informed and modernized policy will ensure mutual understanding between teenagers and policy-makers.

The technological tool will play an effective and crucial role in delivering knowledge and content to many youths. It will result in the decline of sexually transmitted diseases and other illnesses associated with copulation. The opinion of inclusivity of the LGBTQ within the curriculum will enhance the element of understanding gender and the cultural values of every individual within the nation. The aspect of motivation will play a crucial role in ensuring that the unit exhibits excitation and morale for the teenagers to adopt it more. According to Rix et al., “it is also clear that the intrinsic motivators are stronger than extrinsic motivations” (106). The extent to which teenagers are ready to participate in sex education programs is determined by the quality of content delivery that should be motivating and engaging.

The Way How Proposed Changes Cause Differences

The new directions of policy toward sex education proposed in this paper will cause the change through the decline of sexually transmitted diseases. The changes proposed in the comprehensive sexual education will drive teenagers to engage in safe sexual activities that will decline the STDs and other illnesses and effects linked to copulation. The dynamic nature of the underlying actions will also drive teenagers and other youths to engage in meaningful conversations with medical practitioners on the safe ways of dealing with the effects of copulation. The actions will cause changes by creating stable relationships among the teenagers within the community. The measures will induce change by minimizing pregnancy rates in teenagers by a significant amount. It will result in a healthy and stable society.

Conclusion

Comprehensive sex education should be adopted on a compulsory basis in every school within the United States. Both private and public learning institutions should embrace sex education to create awareness among teenagers. Comprehensive sex education is essential for the younger generation as it enhances teenagers’ knowledge about the developmental activities in their bodies. It enables the designated individuals to exhibit healthy and hygienic well-being. The introduction of comprehensive sexual education will enhance the preparation of the younger generations for adolescent activities. The introduction of comprehensive sex education will create a compelling and conducive atmosphere for teenagers in the United States.
