Human Nature as the Central Theme of the Avatar Film

Introduction

This essay is a detailed answer to two questions regarding what the student learned during the term as part of the course and the central theme of Avatar – human nature. Accordingly, the student’s primary goal is to explain how and to what extent writing skills have improved and what needs to be worked on. Moreover, the author of this work focuses on the study of how the movie illustrates the essence of a person and reveals the theme of what it means to be human and to show human qualities. The study of Avatar and identifying the student’s writing abilities are the key points emphasized in this paper.

Avatar: Analysis

Human nature is dual and multifaceted and can manifest itself with the meaning of “plus” and “minus.” An individual can live in harmony with internal and external nature but can, at one moment, destroy what has been created for years and millennia due to wars and revolutions. In a sense, Avatar communicates and shows a viewer that the essence of human nature is to control and “cure” the “negative side” and aggression, especially towards other people. Furthermore, based on Avatar’s concept, people should understand that human nature is what makes them human. Human nature differs from the nature of animals and the rest of creation in that people can think and feel; this is a unique gift of God that needs to be revealed.

One should recognize that there are many crucial moments on which the central meaning and message of the movie are based. In this case, Avatar teaches and demonstrates that to be a human means remaining true to oneself because greed, arrogance, unconsciousness, aloofness, and insensitivity are those “inhuman” qualities that entail troubles and misfortunes both individually and globally. Being a human implies manifesting genuine “human qualities” such as kindness, friendliness, good manners, honesty, loyalty, responsiveness, generosity, humor, and other positive qualities. Additionally, this means living in peace and harmony with everything around us, like nature and technology and everyone, regardless of external and internal attributes (Potter 1-2). For example, these qualities are most clearly manifested in the scene when Jake almost dies, in human form, rescues Neytir. Consequently, to be a human means something more than just being a living creature, and the value of life is incomparable to anything since the loss of each is equivalent to sorrow and suffering.

The Student’s Experience in the Course

In my opinion, ENG101: College Writing I: NZB is one of the courses that has improved and enhanced my writing skills in the most effective, productive, and efficient way. In addition, I can confidently state that my writing has gone from “quantity to quality.” In many ways, this phenomenon occurred due to long-term, extended training and theoretical knowledge acquired during the term. Therefore, today, my writing is sufficiently honed, allowing me to express my thoughts and ideas on paper vividly, beautifully, elegantly, and extraordinarily while maintaining individuality and style. Nevertheless, at the same time, I am well aware that there is no limit to perfection, and I should practice more and apprehend the mysteries of writing.

Systematically overcoming difficulties and honing my writing skills in practice are the most significant aspects, which, in my opinion, I did well. However, without any doubt, while studying new material or trying to perform a wide range of student work, I encountered various problems and obstacles, which I was later able to cope with successfully. For instance, I failed when writing my first works because I feared a blank sheet of paper on which one could create a masterpiece or an ordinary text. However, over time, I realized that if I did not panic about the goals and objectives the instructors set, the probability of successfully writing a paper would increase considerably.

Devoting more time to practicing my written English skills is an essential point that I should work on to improve my writing in the future. Reading more books, composing interesting texts, and using well-chosen words based on the context will help me bring my skills to automatism and make significant progress. It is necessary to actively enhance writing since the ability to express thoughts competently on paper is an indicator of a person’s education and one of the ways to assess their language abilities.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Avatar is one of the few, and especially modern, films that profoundly and in detail strive to reveal the true human essence and nature, forcing us to think about our behavior, actions, and the current reality in the world. Analyzing the movie and creating this paper allowed me to show my writing skills and improve them. Moreover, this work demonstrates the knowledge and skills I have acquired, which will undoubtedly be helpful to me when writing future assignments.
