The best words to describe the history of Black people in the United States are hardship and struggle. The one who understood this best and told the American society about it was Martin Luther King. He also told Americans that “one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed” (King, 1963, p. 63). The point is that I Have a Dream was and remains the message of Black people to the American society.
It is safe to say that fifty-eight years ago, Martin Luther King told every white American how Black people live. He spoke about segregation, discrimination, and racism, the things that Black people faced every day. However, he did not want revenge; he wanted peace and unity.
The tragic events of the past year, namely the death of George Floyd, showed modern American society that the Black community’s problems are all the same as they were fifty or even one hundred years ago. These are discrimination and oppression. It is why Martin Luther King’s famous speech is still relevant today.
Martin Luther King’s I Have A Dream is that one thing that everyone should listen to. This statement is not only about people in the United States, but all over the world. Martin Luther King believed and spoke of eternal and timeless things, and that is why his speech is relevant today.
It is true that I Have a Dream is a unique episode in American history. Martin Luther King, a man who believed in unity, humanity, and goodness, was able to reach out to the heart of every American. That is why his speech will never be forgotten.
