Is Mac OS More Secure Than Windows? Why or Why Not?

Mac OS works on the improvement of its system and keeps adding more security features to make it safer for users. Apple devices offer much simpler safeguarding than Microsoft’s Windows, which makes it more secure. Although an additional firewall and anti-virus would provide extra protection for sensitive information, Mac OS offers a security level that supersedes Windows PC with its Gatekeeper, XProtect, and Malware Removal tool security application (macOS – Security).

It can be scanned and installed directly from the AppStore. Moreover, Apple’s System Integrity Protection (SIP) is entirely transparent and can be easily learned by customers (MacOS – Security). The sandbox that is directly downloaded from the AppStore also provides the necessary protection from rootkit and malware, since it does not let the system interact with untrusted files and processes (MacOS – Security). Therefore, from this point, Mac OS is generally more secure than Windows.

On the other hand, Windows also has an excellent operating security system. Its AV-suit, which detects commodity malware, guarantees the security of personal data and operating system from online threats (Windows). Moreover, Microsoft developed Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (MRT) for Windows; it scans the system for malware and eliminates the threat, and it is run from the command line (Windows). However, Windows has a significant advantage over Mac OS – Apple makes both operating systems and devices, whereas Windows PC is compatible with other producers’ devices. However, the same as Mac OS Windows requires an extra security firewall to protect sensitive information.

Therefore, it can be concluded that both operating systems have relatively stable security when it comes to everyday use. However, both of them need extra protection against more advanced malware attacks. Although Mac OS and Windows security are on the same level, Mac OS seems to be more user-friendly. Thus, Apple customers usually do not require additional support’s help with ensuring the safety of their personal information, which also makes it more secure.
