What I Learned
I learned that marriage and family therapists within California are considered licensed by what is termed as the BBS, which is known as the Behavioral Board of Sciences. To be licensed as a licensed marriage and family therapist, there are various requirements that one has to meet. First, a graduate degree is required, followed by some practice period under strict supervision and an examination. During the supervision process, a worker is deemed to be registered as an intern dealing with Marriage and Family Therapy.
I also learned that California tends to be unique in two ways: A written exam that is state-specific has to be administered to the applicants. There is a credential evaluation process that all out-of-state candidates have to undergo. Additionally, it is also essential for them to be aware of the changes that have taken place in 2012 and that there could be additional changes in the future (State of California, 2020). According to LMFT, such can only reflect the various changes that can occur when it comes to the practices that could include a shift from the undertaken private practices towards ensuring that service delivery is geared to the public sector (“How To Become a Marriage and Family Therapist,” 2020).
Areas That Should be Given Attention Before Submitting Application Forms
Some areas need to be taken into consideration before the submission of the application forms. First, there is the application part that has several instructions. It is essential to complete all sections of the Licensure Application forms. The application to be provided needs to have the applicant’s original signature (Gnaulati, 2020). The applicants need to use their legal name to be established using their birth and marriage certificates. It is also vital to provide an email address to facilitate the communication process. Second, there is the part dealing with the fee. The applicant must pay five hundred dollars either in check or cash. The application fee is non-refundable.
The third part focuses on the examinations. The applicants have to excel in the California LMFT Examinations and Ethics tests. After the application and approval of the Licensure, one is always legible to take their initial examinations. Finally, there is supervisory work experience which in most cases has to total 3,000 hours equivalent to two years (State of California, 2020). The involvement before and after a degree should be evaluated and verified separately. Individuals should prepare for the exams adequately to prevent repeats. The supervisor has to verify the hours and see if the applicants meet the requirements. Therefore, these are the requirements that one needs to consider before submitting the application forms.

Such information in these sites is reviewed annually, and thus, the regulations, policies, and laws could change at any given time. Therefore, it is essential to check up-to-date information regarding marriage and family therapists. There are also online platforms with information regarding the marriage and family licensure application and the necessary information for completing the process. There are also some psychology resources where an individual can receive the needed information as the Licensure entails some psychological learning. All information provided should be authentic to prevent delays in the application process. This will ensure that both the applicant and the supervisor have an easy time.
