Problem Statement
Patients at hospitals mostly interact with nurses and hence share their mood and energy. If nurses are stressed or burnt out, it adversely affects the treated individuals’ situation worsening their mental state and the practical completion of necessary procedures.
As a result, the subjects get disengaged in the treatment, which can produce unwanted waste of the time and materials or even side effects in the organism. According to the study by Ko et al. (2018), resilience and perfectionism were the leading causes of nursing burnout that negatively impacted the quality of nursing care in cancer wards. Therefore, this condition is to be prevented and worked upon to ensure the social well-being and further development of medicine.
There is a severe lack of education about nurse burnout and stress, which results in increasing pressure on the mentioned medical professionals. This aspect is the reason for most of the leaving nurses to quit their passion. As Dawkins and Kendall noted (2019), healthcare managers need to distinguish the nurses with the named conditions and make relevant decisions accordingly. This study showed the importance of consideration of burning out in cancer nurse work management.
Contemporary nursing training does not address the problems of the mental health of professionals. Due to this, nurses perceive stress as the indispensable character of the work and either choose to quit or neglect the problem without considering it properly.
In addition to deterioration of the conditions of the nurses, this phenomenon can affect the hospital finances and patient care too. First, nurses prone to mental health problems might become inattentive and misuse the drugs and medical pieces of equipment. Second, patients might suffer from the indifferent treatment of nurses hurting their feelings and health at the same time. Consequently, there is a definite need for education about mental health for nurses to avert burnout and improve healthcare management.
Plan
The program or professional courses for nurses on the topic of mental health problems is to be created. Such a plan needs to be implemented in nursing schools as well as in training institutions, which provide further professional training for nurses. This measure raises the awareness of the conditions among the medical professionals making them considerate, and it may help to manage the team-working skills better in the future.
Moreover, the hospital management team should conduct the surveys according to the answers of which they can implement appropriate measures. Together with teamwork, it can provide the actual information about the mental situations of nurses and provide support if needed. As people tend to be reluctant to share their problems and failures, studying burnout signs is essential. This knowledge should be added to the healthcare management consideration.
Last but not least, all nurses should be taught about mental self-care strategies, which can help avoid unpleasant and stressful conversations with the management team. Knowing the tools for assisting themselves can create a feeling of safety and control of the situation, affecting professional performance positively. Each nurse will be able to identify the procedure that works best for them and use it accordingly. As self-awareness increases the level of self-confidence, the nurses with this knowledge will be more successful in their work and communication with patients.
Goal
Upon completion of the given plan, the number of unsatisfied nursing professionals will significantly decrease, leading to a higher level of patient satisfaction and nurse retention.
