Multicultural and Sensitive Leadership in Organizations

Most aspects of life will require guiding or influencing people or followers toward achieving a common goal. Leadership is the word used to define this statement, one of the most contributors to success in whatever one is involved in. a leader has to consider the diversity and the difference of their followers or congregation. One of the issues that this essay will focus on is the importance of culture-sensitive leaders as they drive their organizations toward achieving their goals. Multi-culture includes ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, and culture. Our country is home to people of different ethnic and cultural identification. In the quest to make a living, they will find themselves looking for jobs in different public organizations. Leaders’ cultural sensitivity awareness is important because it allows them to understand and learn about what is different from theirs and avoid doing or saying things that may hurt or favor people from one culture over the other (Vervaet, 2018). Suppose the employees in any organization have a reason to believe that some of them are being favored or treated differently because of their cultural differences. In that case, there will be conflicts that lead to management difficulties. Being culturally sensitive will make leaders avoid biased actions, which will cause conflicts in their organizations.

Globalization refers to the independence being experienced in the world’s economy, which is brought about by a country having people from all over the world. These people from all over the world have different requirements and expertise, which will need different training. Different companies in America should come up with different training that aims to accommodate the different company requirements and the different requirements of the available employees. Training employees brings employees together where they interact and appreciate their differences. There are several types of training programs that companies in America can conduct for their employees. Orientation training is one of those training aimed at making people familiar with new workplaces. Globalization has attracted people to work in organizations where in this case, orientation will aim at making the new employees familiar. Leadership training is another type of training that organizations conduct on their employees. This type of training aims at equipping some employees with skills to deal with other employees in the quest to achieve their goals (Vervaet, 2018). Some of these are the issues of multi-culture sensitivity that help leaders in their administrative activities. Other training programs are onboarding, compliance, product, and quality, which aim to improve employees’ productivity and output in their different workplaces.

The case study involves three employees, Linda, Jane, and Paul, who are from different ethnic or cultural societies. Their comment that employees from the African American communities always take their meals together by jane appears to be racist to Linda. To me, Linda’s reaction was somehow justified because jane could have seen them differently. To Linda, jane saw their color every time she looked at them together, which she considers racist. Jane’s reaction saying that Linda was accusing her of being racist, can be unjustified. Jane should try to be culture-sensitive and try not to use racially suggestive words in the future since she now understands that her fellow employees are culturally sensitive (Vervaet, 2018). She should also try to talk to Linda and reason with her by stating that she did not mean to make a perceived impression. Cultural sensitivity is very important in workplaces and should be given the deserved weight, enabling both leaders and employees to work in harmony.
