Operating System, Random-Access Memory, and Processor Speed

Introduction

It is impossible to imagine the modern world without up-to-date technology and computers because they perform essential functions and provide people with numerous opportunities. People should understand that computers represent the combination of hardware and software, and the two components allow individuals to perform various tasks with their devices. It is impossible to state which element is more significant for the device’s operation. Thus, one should comment on the role of an operating system (OS), random-access memory (RAM), and processor speed and explain how and why software needs to be updated regularly.

Operating System Overview

An OS is one of the most significant elements of every computer and laptop. This software enables the device’s work by managing software and hardware resources and controls all the application programs. The screenshot above demonstrates that Windows 10 is my OS. It is one of the latest versions, and I have used to working with it. For me, this OS is convenient because it offers an intuitive interface, which denotes that I perfectly understand how some functions work and where I can find needed information. I can start using Windows 11, but this approach will result in additional challenges for me because it would take time for me to understand how this new OS works.

One should explain that it is necessary to know the OS and its properties, and numerous arguments prove it. Firstly, this knowledge helps a user better understand how their device works and what processes take place when some manipulations are performed (Porter and Chester Institute, 2020). This competency makes an individual a more proficient computer user. Secondly, it is important to download the correct software and applications because different versions should be used for 32-bit and 64-bit OSs. Thus, knowledge of an OS provides a user with an opportunity to download applications that are compatible with their device’s software.

Random-Access Memory Importance

The screenshot also demonstrates that my RAM is 16 GB. RAM provides a device with working memory, which denotes that every opened application is loaded into RAM, where a processor works with this software (Pardo, 2021). The value above demonstrates that my computer is capable of smooth working with powerful applications. For example, I can freely install and play demanded online games or deal with video editing.

Thus, the information above reveals that browsers, office programs, media players, and all other applications require this memory to operate, which explains that RAM is critically important for every device. It is reasonable to ensure that a computer or laptop has sufficient RAM because this feature proves that a user can simultaneously work with numerous applications without problems. Furthermore, having enough RAM ensures that a device will not have any lags when powerful applications are run.

Significance of Processor Speed

On my computer, the speed of the central processing unit (CPU) equals 3.30 gigahertz (GHz). This feature determines how fast the CPU obtains and interprets instructions from a user through an OS (Pigtou Team, 2022). That is why users typically need faster CPUs to ensure that their devices are more powerful and can perform more operations within shorter periods of time. The speed of my processor denotes that my computer is suitable for demanding computing tasks and working with powerful software, including Photoshop, video editing, programming tasks, and gaming. Simultaneously, the speed of 2.4 GHz is appropriate for dealing with simple tasks that refer to browsing the Internet and working with documents.

Even though I am completely satisfied with my CPU’s features, I would need a faster processor under specific circumstances. In particular, it would be rational to rely on 4 or 5 GHz if I need to increase the productivity of my device. One should admit that the higher speed demonstrates that the computer or laptop would be able to perform more operations within the same period of time. However, one should also highlight that increased speed can lead to heat increase, which can harm the entire device.

Updating and Training Recommendations

Upgrading the office computers to the new Windows version is a significant task that leads to many benefits. Firstly, new versions typically have better performance features, which denotes that software will have increased possibilities. For example, it is possible to expect reduced loading times, which is beneficial for users. Secondly, upgrading is necessary because new versions can be better compatible with innovative software applications. The rationale behind this statement is that new applications can have more demanding system requirements, which denotes that new versions of an OS are needed to promote smooth working. Thus, keeping software up-to-date can increases the employees’ and technology’s productivity. Finally, it is essential to upgrade the OS to improve cybersecurity. Criminals keep sophisticating their skills in overcoming the existing safety measures, and the reliance on a new Windows version can reduce the presence of vulnerable areas. That is why it is reasonable to upgrade the OS and train employees on how to use it.

The software upgrading plan is relatively simple and relies on a few steps. Firstly, it is essential to wait for the moment when a new version is available. This statement denotes that information technology professionals should monitor the news and releases to notice when upgrading is possible. Simultaneously, an organization can have an agreement with software providers, and the latter can notify businesses when new versions are available. Secondly, one should read the description of the new software to identify what improvements it can bring. It can occur that updated versions do not have the features that are critical for an organization. In this case, upgrading can cause challenges, and it is necessary to be prepared for them. Thirdly, if these features are suitable for the business, it is reasonable to learn whether this program can be installed on office computers considering the latter’s system properties. Finally, the last step is to upgrade the existing software to a new version and receive benefits.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it is not reasonable to ignore the fact that whether a new software version will make a difference depends on how properly employees will use it. That is why it is reasonable to prove that individuals know the system properties and opportunities, and appropriate training can help them cope with the task. It seems that a suitable solution is to organize group training sessions where experts will present a new software version to employees and explain its properties. This approach is time and cost-efficient since it allows for effective training of numerous employees simultaneously. Another possible approach is to assign coaches who would provide employees with assistance in using new software. Workers can reach these professionals to know more about how to use a new version. In any case, organizations should not neglect training to ensure that new software is properly implemented.
