Printmaking Sustainability in the Middle East: Mohamed’s Research on Art Practices

Summary

In this research, the author investigates the sustainability of printmaking in the Middle East, particularly the challenges faced by graduates who lack resources and support outside the educational environment. The author reviews solutions for creative practices that could foster a more sustainable profession in the region; innovative, simple, and economical printmaking processes do not require special equipment or materials, making printmaking more accessible, affordable, and low-cost, which could be sustainable. The study has defined the role of the printmaking co-operative as a ‘place’ and platform for production, learning, and marketing in printmaking, helping to escape the isolation of printed art from the region’s art center and revitalizing this kind of art in the Middle East. The author also presents how a co-operative in printed art could bridge the gap between handmade and demand.

Reflection

This article has increased my understanding of how difficult it is to sustain traditional arts in modern contexts, especially when these areas face economic and logistical challenges. The part about printmaking as a sustainable art form influenced me because it goes back to our main concept of preserving culture while making it fit the modern world, including the digital world. The information on new approaches helps me better understand how to make arts education and practice more practical and enduring, especially under certain circumstances. This analysis of sustainability goes beyond my thinking about an artist’s creativity and tolerance in a cold atmosphere, and it aligns with my priority from last week: the importance of what it takes to fitly intake, treat, store, and make a statement/conservation on 2D works of visual arts. Besides, by following the providence, it not only showed me the compatibility of strategy adjustment with the investment in visual arts, but also revealed the potential between these strategies, continuing to evolve, gregarious, and inspiring the community of artwork.
