Simone Giertz’s Video on Radiation Therapy

Social media enables people to communicate with large international audiences without any obstacles and in an open and transparent way. The popularity of social media can be largely attributed to its ability to offer people content that can inspire and encourage them to become better versions of themselves. Although there are many videos that once inspired me to aspire to improve myself, the video by Simone Giertz about her experience with radiation therapy had the most positive impact on me.

Simone Giertz is a Swedish YouTube celebrity who has become popular because of her engineering skills which enabled her to make creative appliances and devices about which she talks in her videos. I have always enjoyed the content by Simone Giertz, yet her video titled “My experience with radiation therapy” completely changed my perception of my life (Giertz, 2019). In the video, she talked about her story about a non-cancerous tumor in her brain and how she underwent treatment to remove it. It was my first experience seeing a person with a tumor, making me extremely emotional about the situation. Yet, shortly, I understood the significance of the video and the story shared by Simone. Specifically, the video made me reconsider my life approach and gave me a positive mindset. It humbled me and made me thankful for my health and ability to enjoy my time free from disease.

Simone’s purpose in sharing the post was to show that having a tumor did not mean death and that it could be treated. Simone achieved the goal of demonstrating how it was important to stay strong when one has a major condition. Simone’s target audience was primarily healthy people, and she managed to reach them. The post was organized in the form of a life blog where Simone simply talked about her experience while making a lamp. The qualities that make a social media post effective are genuineness and honesty; Simone demonstrated them in her video.

Simone posted a video where she talked about a tumor in her brain and how she was undergoing radiation therapy to remove it.
