The fact that human beings belong to the same species is undoubted. Moreover, understanding race, racism, and discrimination are equally important, since the whole matter of race and racism revolves around the human ethnic background. The context of this issue has continued to be a matter of discussion, taking into account that racial segregation undermines social and economic development. Human beings are born equal with rights and dignity that must be respected (Bobo & Fox, 2003). On the other hand, racism is an action coupled with an attitude that subordinates a person or a group of people, based on skin color or racial background. Another concerning aspect that encompasses the practice of racial discrimination is institutional racism. It is defined as the act that perpetuates treating people differently pegged on their social, economic, and spiritual backgrounds.
The special treatment is sometimes favoring the racist in terms of power, influence, or material benefit. Nevertheless, the study by sociologists focuses not only on the definitions but also illuminates the processes of racism and its structural manifestations (Bobo & Fox, 2003). The article deeply delves into the socio-psychological process involving race and racial discrimination. The research has also pointed out that despite the efforts and concerted study to unveil race and racism as a problem, the manifestation of social discrimination still eludes the modern lifestyle through social interactions. This is evident in not only the matter of the black and white divide but also through the economic, simultaneous, and multi-group interactions (Bobo & Fox, 2003). Moreover, the article highlights three major areas that sociologists and psychologists put their efforts in. One of them concerns theories explaining race and racial segregation. The second goal is to improve the work of multi-ethnic groups, and the third one discusses the target group in the issue of race and racial discrimination.
Socio-psychological effects of race and racial discrimination have been highlighted too. The article acts as an avenue of the good use of print media, in a scholarly manner to educate, mitigate, and broaden the sociologist’s understanding of the whole matter of race, racism, and discrimination.
