How to Tackle and Make Sense of the Scenario

In daily lives, different circumstances arise, leading to psychological torture or even depression in the affected person. It is, therefore, mandatory that high professionalism is shown when dealing with such situations (Sternisko et al., 2020). To ensure all that is done successively, a practitioner mediating the issue is encouraged to use different theories known as social theories that try to simplify the work. This paper will look at the possible approaches that try to present ideas and arguments of certain situations by applying theories such as the Radical Marxist theory, Structural Social Work Theory by Mullay Feminist theory Adams Smith theory, among others.

Theories to Make Sense of The Condition

The theory that makes sense of the situation is the System’s theory. This theory explores the interconnection between the environment and its people. It suggests a way of providing a new way to understand the person in a particular situation (Chernyak-Hai & Rabenu, 2018). The theory shows how people’s lives could be viewed as having many inter-related systems that work dependently to meet a specific requirement. In Tess’s case scenario, giving birth was a radical change that took place in her life and even affected her performance at the workplace, but it is inevitable since it is equally a fortunate thing. The family Tess should come together and get a solution for the child together to ensure that everybody is comfortable.

Moreover, Tess is in a contradicting situation where she does not know what steps to take, staying back at home to take care of the toddler and quitting her job entirely or a maid to be employed to take care of the baby on her behalf. Since this is a complicated situation for her to handle, her closest friends and family should come to her rescue and find possible solutions. She should be granted help to ensure that she does not endure psychological torture and that critiques are not directed to her about the workload in her profession. Everyone around her should be familiarized with her condition.

Consequently, Adams Smith’s theory of equity suggests that an employee who feels like you are advantageously treating them is likely to work extra harder hence the final output is high. On the other hand, if employees feel they are being mistreated, they are likely to undergo demotivation and the final output will be low (Lloyd & Mertens, 2018). It focuses mainly on the morale of workers. In the case of Tess’s work condition, her employers and workmates should make her feel comfortable even though she will not give the best in her work. Close friends should even be encouraged to assist her in some tasks she would be assigned to relieve her from psychological torture brought by the child. A feeling of unfair treatment will make her feel demoralized, and even she may produce poor results.

Suffice to note, structural social work is another theory that can apply in this case. The approach emphasizes social structures such as a class in dealing with the entire problem. Putting into consideration the social and personal changes will be vital in arriving at a desirable conclusion. Structural social work theory makes different social divisions broad and relieves those experiencing difficulties in other occurrences. In this case, Tess is oppressed as she is unable to make a majority of the decisions for herself. Factors contributing to this situation include having some traditional beliefs that may negatively hinder her decision-making and the community myth of women’s inferiority. This theory will have a deeper analysis of her current situation and the overall social class norms to come up with a solution because women fear expressing themselves fully. And the end, a solution will be got in a fair manner that will ensure no party was overlooked.

Theory That Will Tackle the Situation Conveniently

The theory that I will use in my work includes the Radical Marxist theory. This theory gives an explanation of poverty, social inequality and the economic crisis amongst people in the society. It will help the most disadvantaged by a particular system adopt some beliefs that will benefit them (Pouwelse et al., 2021). Since this theory emphasizes the structural analysis of a person’s problem, it can be used to solve Tess’s troubles. The approach aims to protect individuals from oppression and enhance social change through personal liberation goals. Her family is required to understand why her preferences should be prioritized first to live the active life she desires.

The theory also emphasizes transformation in which it seeks to change traditional ways in which social problems can be viewed and resolved. It deals with consciousness in raising issues related to social inequalities in society. Tess’s husband must be involved fully in taking care of the child since it is a two-way parental responsibility. In the case of Tess’s husband, though he does not know much about parenting, the family can try other ways of assisting in bringing up the child. He can do so by employing a helper to take care of the child partly while Tess is on her duty.

Critical theory is also applicable in finding a solution to Tess’s condition. It entails analyzing the current situation and making assumptions that will save the problem. Judging the current issues to come up with a long-lasting solution is also reasonable according to this theory. Having this understanding will reduce the adverse decisions on marginalized groups such as women who cannot make decisions for themselves. Undesirable injustices are likely to be dealt with critically without necessarily involving written documents but rather critical thinking (Pezaro, 2018). However, it is challenging because those who the rule will be against might resist the rulings hence posing a challenge in ensuring equity.

Feminist theories can be instrumental in making her know her rights well. For instance, she has to know how to deal with both personal and public problems. The theory suggests that women should get equal treatment as men. They are required to be engaged in the decision-making of every situation and their views are respected like any other man’s views. The main aim of this theory is to ensure that women’s well-being is properly and well-taken care of. Linking up their private sorrows with their social position and status in society is vital in solving the issue. In the case scenario of Tess, she needs to be handled in a way that she will feel comfortable with (Philip & Sengupta, 2020). Her rights must be clear to ensure that she will not be overworked since she equally goes to work just like her husband. Taking care of the child is a shared responsibility, and the husband must similarly take part in that, whether directly or indirectly. At last, equality must have prevailed and her rights well taken into maximum consideration.

How I Will Personally Tackle the Situation

In conclusion, the theory that I will use is the narrative approach to work on the client’s complaints. The Narrative Approach has a foundation in which it mainly focuses on the current situation before giving the final verdict. In this case, I will begin by understanding the situation in which Tess and her family are in and understanding complaints from both sides. Doing so will make it easy to reach a fair agreement. It will be possible to personify the situation and possible draft outcomes before making the final judgment. Adam Smith’s theory summarizes all the theories by giving a conclusion that ensures equality in social work.
