Reflection on Management Style
The management style of my tutor is more in line with Scientific Management than with the Human Relations School, based on my observations during the five Organizational Behavior tutorials I attended and the several class activities we participated in. Scholarly research and data from my contacts with my tutor corroborate this view (Miller & Form, 1964).
Human Relations School Principles Observed
My tutor’s management techniques have three aspects that are in line with the Human Relations School:
Relationship Building Is a Priority
My tutor values forming a good rapport with her students. They sincerely care for their student’s academic and personal well-being. For instance, my tutor gets to know each student personally, recalls their names, and shows empathy for their struggles and worries. Making a personal connection demonstrates that students are welcome in the classroom and that the tutor respects everyone’s individuality.
Promotion of Engagement and Collaboration
My tutor organizes class activities to facilitate student engagement and encourage collaboration opportunities. Such goals can be achieved by promoting discussions in which participants share their opinions and experiences, and by obtaining student feedback (Uhl-Bien et al., 2020). Moreover, an essential feature of my classes with my tutor is participation in group projects, which supports peer-to-peer training and teaches them about the significance of cooperation in achieving goals.
Strong Focus on Self-Development
My tutor’s efforts are also heavily focused on encouraging students’ personal development. This feature is evident in the fact that, after participating in the task and discussions, the tutor also provides students with feedback and criticism, pointing out areas for improvement. Moreover, to support students’ growth, she also offers additional opportunities for study, such as extra materials, tasks, or help with comprehending a topic outside of class. This support encourages students to self-develop, enhance their skills, and improve their academic performance.
Management Benefits for Learners
Thanks to the established learning environment and the work of a tutor, I made significant progress in my studies. When tutors show genuine interest in students’ academic progress and well-being, their wards feel cared for and appreciated (Wagner III & Hollenbeck, 2020). I have been able to actively connect with the course material and learn from my peers thanks to the emphasis on participation and cooperation, which has enhanced my learning experience.
Furthermore, emphasizing personal growth has given me the confidence to take charge of my education and make constant progress (Miller & Form, 1964). I have had a better learning experience in Organizational Behavior tutorials thanks to my tutor’s management strategies, which align with the Human Relations School of thought.
