Human history can be traced through artifacts and art products that were created by past generations. Based on these objects, researchers discover the details of the development of society, the state, and specific individuals. Therefore, in 1865, An Attempted Mutiny Aboard The Brigantine Hope was written, which is a letter from William Priest (Travis, 2018). The main theme of the text is the mutiny of dark-skinned slaves who are transported by ship from African countries to the American continent. It is thanks to reading and analyzing the information received from the artifact that one can see the most pressing problems of that society and identify exactly what trends were observed.
This letter is supposed to be a report that is formed for a report on the results of the rebellion. However, a closer look reveals that there is no compassion or understanding from the writer for the situation of black people. In other words, slaves are written about as soulless things that only bring benefits. Often, rebelling slaves were killed, which happened on a ship from Connecticut (Travis, 2018). It is important to emphasize that the context of that time explains such an attitude of the writer towards black individuals since this was the era of slavery.
From this one can draw a definite conclusion about the history of America, in particular about the racism that flourished two hundred years ago. Slavery was the scourge of society, distorting both worldviews and violating the democratic foundations of relationships between people. This underlines the fact that the ongoing trends were initially wrong, exacerbating both the development of the country and the state system. It is thanks to such documents that a modern researcher and reader can see and feel the social conflict and injustice of those times.
