Capitalism, Climate Change, and Globalization

In modern times, the entire human civilization is defined by the capitalistic approach to all relationships among people and countries. The current world paradigm calls for focusing on materialistic benefits and idolizes the pursue of profit as an accurate measure of one’s happiness and success. Pope Francis insists that living beings can not have price tags assigned to their lives, and those modern economic tendencies are harmful to people both now and especially in the future. Globalization allowed significant corporations to put a substantial strain on the environment in developing countries. Out of this pursuit of higher monetary gains, people tend to disregard all the implications that their actions bring to the planet, as long as technology or policy in question costs less to implement.

In my opinion, every person must acknowledge that this approach will lead to more suffering and disasters, and work on changing their attitude towards consumerism culture. For example, most factories nowadays are located in countries where environmental policies are weak or nonexistent, and human labor costs much less. This type of outsourcing introduces a significant amount of threats to the environment and people who live in these countries.
