Jesus Christ as the Superior High Priest and Advocate
As they approach the heavenly Zion and the conclusion of the New Covenant, Christians look with the eyes of faith at the new and better Advocate before God for them, the new high priest, Jesus Christ. His blood, which was brought to God in the heavenly Holy of Holies and redeemed Christians, intercedes before God much louder and better than the blood of the righteous Abel called to God from the earth (Hebrews 12:24 (NIV), n.d.).
The Contrast Between Abel’s Blood and the Blood of Christ
The blood of Jesus, figuratively speaking, intercedes for all participants in the New Testament (for Christians) directly before God, in heaven, because Jesus ascended with it to heaven. The instructions for Christians also come from heaven. In addition, the blood of Abel shouted out to God for retaliation, and the blood of Christ intervened in the pardoning of sins and the support of the multitude of children of God for whom Christ was sacrificed. The contrast between the two “blood” speakers (Abel and Jesus) is presented here as a contrast between the voice of God coming from the earth (Mount Sinai) and the voice coming from heaven through the speaking Christ (from Mount Zion).
Endurance, Faith, and the Transformative Power of Christ’s Sacrifice
Regarding encouragement to endure, Hebrews 12:24 reminds believers that they approach a strong middle person and a superior contract. This urges them to endure their faith despite challenges, troubles, and abuse. It promises them that the blood of Jesus, shed on the cross, adorns them with exculpating, cleansing, and a restored relationship with God.
With everything taken into account, this section urges believers to understand Jesus, the author and perfecter of their faith. It makes them aware of every obstacle and sin that might bother them and helps them accept their own identity. It underlines the significance of discipline, adjustment, and adoration for God as He contributes to the development of believers.
