Climate Change: Impact on Extreme Weather Events

The article selected for the discussion of environmental problems is titled “How climate change is affecting extreme weather events around the world,” which was published on the Science Daily website earlier this year. The article summarizes the scientific paper on the impact of climate change on extreme weather events worldwide (IOP Publishing, 2022). It was found that global warming was significantly associated with harsh weather, particularly with heatwaves, rainfalls, and droughts (IOP Publishing, 2022). Indeed, it is concluded in the article that carbon dioxide production associated with globalization is having consequences, which may worsen in the future if humanity does not resolve this problem.

I knew that greenhouse gas emission to the atmosphere is a serious problem since it causes the planet’s temperature to rise, the melting of polar ice, as well as various chronic diseases in humans. However, I was unaware that it has already led to an increase in the rate of droughts, rainfalls, and heat waves. Thus, I want to study at what stage the global community is in terms of diminishing carbon release and decelerating climate change.

The importance of research for humanity cannot be overstated since scientists are an essential source of new knowledge, which may predict future environmental disasters and provide suggestions for preventing them. Studies on climate change can provide a tremendous benefit for individuals, communities, and the world. If every person knows how one’s actions contribute to the temperature rise on the planet, human beings and society, in general, may become more mindful about the sustainable use of various products of civilization. Additionally, countries, governments, and organizations worldwide will develop better policies and strategies for reducing carbon production if they have data and recommendations from researchers.
