Egyptian civilization is one of the oldest cultures in the world. It is apparent that its governmental structure, architecture and other aspects had a vehement influence on the formation and outlook of the modern world. Consequently, a primary goal of this essay is to evaluate an effect of each aspect on the structure of the modern society.
It is widely known that Pharaoh was the ruler of Ancient Egypt. However, he was not only a sovereign but also was praised as “the living god” (Cunningham & Reich, 2010, p.11). Nonetheless, the situation regarding the governmental authority is different today. However, it is apparent that the head of the country has a similar level of protection and responsibilities. As for the architecture, pyramids were the most common Egyptian structures, which were built out of limestone and sandstone (Rockwood, 2013). Their primary goal was to unite gods and pharaohs and cherish their memories.
Despite losing its initial intention, the pyramids still appear in the modern architecture, such buildings as Louvre remind of the Egyptian culture. Moreover, limestone and sandstone are often used to construct the houses in the modern Egypt.
As for the family customs, for girls, it was common to get married at the age of 14, and men, in turn, supposed to get married, when they are able to support the family (Kaplan, 2004). It could be said the situation is different in the modern Egypt and the world, as now people have a tendency to marry later. Nonetheless, it is apparent that Egypt contributed to the development of the family values in the modern world, as man is still considered as the head of the household.
However, this trend continues to change towards the development of equal rights. As for the agriculture, it was an important element of Ancient Egypt. However, the agricultural sector remains a primary source of the income in the modern Egypt. Consequently, the significance of agriculture remains the same. As for the commerce, the trading routes established in Ancient Egypt contributed to the development of the globalization and internationalization of the trade, as the primary trading routes were used to distribute the products in the beginning.
Egyptian astronomy also had a vehement influence on the modern presence of this science. It is widely known that Ancient Egyptians were living in accordance with the lunar calendar and predicted the ideal time for harvesting by the positions of the moon and the stars (Magli, 2013). It is clear that this matter contributed to the development of the modern astronomy, as Egyptians provided the primary information about the stars. As for the writing, its contribution to the modern linguistics not only lays in the development of the hieroglyphs but also in the proposal of the first alphabet (Coulmas, 2003). However, as the technological progress occurred, it was necessary to simplify the writing to enhance the communication process and the speed of the information flow.
It conclusion, it could be said that various aspects of Ancient Egypt contributed to the development of the trends, which are present in the modern world. It is clear that that the science and politics of Ancient Egypt had a vehement reflection on the state of the modern politics, as the primary principles remained unchanged. Nonetheless, some trends have a tendency to change and disappear over time, as the world is evolving constantly and rapidly.
