Functional Communication Training via Telehealth for Young Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder

Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) was employed for this investigation to compare the therapy with Functional Communication Training. RCT’s participants are randomly assigned to either an experimental or a control group. Testing the effects of a novel depression drug would serve as an example. In this situation, one group would get the real medication, and the other would get a placebo. An RCT design was employed for this specific investigation (Lindgren et al., 2020). The outcome variable under study, in this case, is the only distinction between the experimental and controlled groups.

The implemented RCT design compared FCT treatment to a waitlist control group that got treatment as usual for the twelve weeks that the RCT was in operation (Lindgren et al., 2020). Twelve weeks was chosen as the most suitable time frame for group comparisons because it was long enough for the experimental group to evaluate behavior change in response to treatment. In addition, it served as a reasonable waiting period for the control group. It was comparable to the typical waiting of the first appointments for newly referred children with ASD in the medical center’s behavioral clinics.

The design was quantitative since RCT trials measure the outcomes. The research offers some suggestions for enhancing telehealth services for kids, such as FCT, which would reduce problem behavior and boost job completion. Additionally, parents would be very accepting of such treatment. Compared to in-home therapists, the treatment’s acceptability was also determined to be high. It also implied that parents might use the FA=FCT to address moderate to severe behavioral issues presented by their ASD-affected children (Lindgren et al., 2020). The ability to do parent coaching, behavioral assessment, and treatment processes via real-time telehealth is one of the ideas I would like to put into practice if I were to offer telehealth services.
