IT Infrastructure Services: Telecommunications, Data Management, Cloud & Consulting

Introduction

The IT infrastructure includes everything needed to ensure the operation of the internal and external networks, including communication between corporate devices and working with the Internet. This includes the software, hardware, networks, and connected services that make up an organization’s IT environment (Laudon and Laudon, 2019). In addition, the technological infrastructure includes telecommunications, data management and storage, cloud computing, and consulting services.

Four Services

Telecommunications

Telecommunications, or networking, enable the exchange of information between interested parties. It incorporates data transmission as well as voice or video communication between employees, customers, and suppliers (Laudon and Laudon, 2019). These services may involve integrating local operating systems such as Windows Server, Linux, or Unix.

With access to the local network, users can exchange data securely and quickly. In addition, various platforms, such as Cisco and Juniper Networks, can be used for these purposes. According to Laudon and Laudon (2019), this provides companies with “voice and data connectivity, wide area networking, wireless services, and Internet access” (p. 211). Thus, telecommunications are critical to the organization’s smooth, coordinated operation.

Data Management and Storage

Data management and storage services are an essential element of the IT infrastructure, ensuring the collection, organization, storage, availability, and protection of company data. They guarantee access to data on customers, supply chains, and production processes, and can also be an effective resource for analyzing information and supporting decision-making (Laudon and Laudon, 2019).

Moreover, these services provide data security, helping prevent cyberattacks and maintain the confidentiality of customer data. Laudon and Laudon (2019) note that the most common “database software providers are IBM (DB2), Oracle, Microsoft (SQL Server), and SAP Sybase (Adaptive Server Enterprise)” (p. 211). These platforms enable you to quickly process large volumes of data, helping optimize workflows and inform decision-making and strategy development.

Cloud Services

Recently, cloud technologies have become increasingly popular, enabling companies to abandon local servers and store data in virtual networks. This approach to data management can be more effective because it provides on-demand access to the information of interest (Laudon and Laudon, 2019). Unlike local networks, cloud technologies can be accessed regardless of the user’s location. Cloud computing includes three service models: infrastructure as a service (IaaS), software as a service (SaaS), and platform as a service (PaaS) (Laudon and Laudon, 2019). They provide users with access to different cloud options based on their needs.

Consulting and System Integration Services

Consulting services are necessary to ensure the effective operation of the IT infrastructure. They help integrate systems into companies’ operations and support their operations in accordance with standards and legal requirements (Laudon and Laudon, 2019). This implies both the technical aspects of technology implementation and the training and education of employees and management.

Conclusion

Therefore, services are an important part of a company’s IT infrastructure, ensuring its efficient operation. They allow one to establish uninterrupted work processes, guarantee communication between stakeholders, preserve and make data available, and enable remote access. Moreover, supporting services, such as consulting, help organizations integrate systems without disrupting productivity.
