Often, music plays the role of a mood transmitter of a cinematic picture and sets the tone. “Dexter Opening Theme” throughout the introduction, despite its ease, builds tension and suspense. Hence, quite upbeat, joyful music plays against the background of the morning routine of the main character (Ramanjiah, 2011). It is worth noting that the authors usually use this technique to show “the mental condition of the lead character” (Kennedy, 2020, para. 1). Therefore, the combination of image and music emphasizes that appearance does not show the inner aspects of a person and it introduces the inner conflicts, emphasizing the split personality of the man. Unpleasant pictures using this kind of music play the role of distracting from the central concept of the series. On the other hand, this accompaniment causes hostility and rejection concerning the depicted, as there is some catch.
In the “WALL-E intro,” the picture opens with a cheerful song that tells about the world beyond. At this time, the audience is presented with pictures of space and then of the abandoned earth, which evokes emotions and music sets the mood of the cartoon. The audio creates a melancholic and desolate feel and the loneliness of the title character. Moreover, because of the cheerful and bright music, there is confusion at the sight of pictures of a deserted and polluted city. In addition, the melody accompanies the main character as he moves between piles of garbage (Voyou1, 2010). Thus, the music gives a reasonably positive attitude to what is happening in the introduction to the cartoon. There is an emotional response regarding the main character since it is he who is the carrier of the melody in the opening scene.
