The organization under consideration, the Flat Earth Society, is an explicit example of an online platform uniting people with a common belief. They provide extensive information regarding the movement’s support represented by the eponymous football club and the participation of YouTube celebrities in the discussion (The Flat Earth Society, n.d.). In this way, the website is widely promoted by various entities and individuals, which adds to the seeming credibility of their views and makes them appealing. Such an active behavior creates a favorable image for the community and, thereby, attracts new members willing to share this perspective on the Earth’s shape.
Nevertheless, despite such a bright representation of the alleged truth regarding the planet’s real form, this claim seems dubious due to the lack of scientific proof. The organization’s website contains various writings, and most of them belong to the past century (The Flat Earth Society, n.d.). Moreover, the recent evidence is primarily provided by the community members rather than derived from other sources based on actual research (The Flat Earth Society, n.d.). These facts allow concluding on the lack of credibility of the data published there, which makes this initiative resemble an attempt to convince people in their views’ correctness without providing a solid ground for them.
The consideration of such organizations as the Flat Earth Society demonstrates the need to apply critical thinking to the newly received information to avoid misconceptions. In this case, the only logical analysis helped me reveal the true nature of the presented perspectives on reality since it requires checking the reliability of events. This outcome is significantly complicated by the principle of freedom in one’s expression of beliefs, which neglects public impact considerations and focuses solely on liberty manifestation. Thus, the complex task of establishing the credibility of information required the use of logic.
