Among all the many social topics that have deeply touched the souls of the millions around the world, the issue of social equality has come at the forefront. Being a feminist who supports women’s rights to the fullest extent and underlines their equality to men, I have never understood why the modern narrative has turned into reaching the superiority of women over men. To be clear, I am speaking of the Western approach to feminism, and in developed countries, where women have the right to vote, to drive (not drink and drive), to work, to have babies, to choose whom they marry, and so forth.
Even though women are also given preference in such instances as getting custody over a child, there seems to be a lack of satisfaction among modern third-wave feminists regarding the rights they are given. Those who rage against the gender pay gap cannot really do the math properly, while others insist that there is no gender and that it is a social construct. It is as easy to get tangled up in these narratives as trying to watch the Star Wars without knowing that the 1999-2005 movies should go first.
Most likely, confusion arises because women do not know what they want. One day, it is the equality of pay, but another day, men’s money is “family money” while their money is “for girly things.” Double standards of this nature often make modern feminism laughable because there are real women in third-world countries that we should worry about. And we should not forget that no matter what we do, our chromosomes have already predetermined our future mannerism and biological trends. Thus, there is no shame in wanting “girly things” as some men love them too. Pedicures all round, we are all equal here!
