The Police Department’s Ethical Challenges

Introduction

Employees are the most significant stakeholder in criminal justice agencies such as police departments. Police-related behaviors include their engagement with one another, the customers they serve, and how they use institution time and other resources because it significantly impacts the organization’s operations. The code outlines the ideals an institution must foster in its workers and executives, and, as a result, it specifies the appropriate behavior. This essay will outline the moral standards a virtual police force should follow.

Establishment of Ethical Policy

As the head of the police department, I will formulate the moral codes to ensure that the guidelines tackle the agency’s key operational and behavioral components. I will begin by conducting a study to identify potential ethical issues the department faces. Additionally, I will examine the literature on police misconduct cases that people have reported in other areas (Belur et al., 2020). The research will help me to find the most frequently utilized police powers and various types of wrongdoing that might require regulation. The ethical code will specify how the police officers must conduct themselves when using the authority granted to them by state law.

While drafting the standard procedures, I will involve the law enforcement officer’s shareholders, community superiors who directly experience police abuse and human rights advocates who are constantly at the forefront of denouncing such behaviors. Any other police department-written codes of conduct from throughout the state or the continent will serve as the primary source (Cole, Smith, & DeJong, 2021). The participants must check the references they choose to ensure the principles have produced outcomes according to their adopted sources because facts must support them.

Ethical Policy Communication Process

I will email everyone about the agency’s plans to create new protocols for staff and that everyone is encouraged to contribute. Furthermore, the agency will offer a platform like a comments box to gather people’s viewpoints. I will make copies of the initial policy document accessible to everyone. Additionally, I will conduct training with the help of other stakeholders to complete comprehension of each portion, particularly those based on individual units of action. After the training program, police officers will fill in the ethics code affirmation form, which shows that they are familiarized with the ethical rules regulating their behavior in their operational system (Duran, Woodhams & Bishopp, 2019). Additionally, each person will maintain a paper agreement with the other original in their file.

Inspection and Compliance

I will develop the guideline to outline the expected officer behavior, things that they are prohibited from performing, and the consequences of breaking the established rule of conduct. Additionally, the penalties will be determined by the legislation violated and each person’s history of offenses. Every agency’s administration executives must closely monitor their subordinates to follow the rules. The agency will regularly launch investigations on how the policemen behave in the neighborhood (El Sayed, Sanford & Kerley, 2019). The local policing directors’ unit and the human rights office will collect reports of police misbehavior from the general public.

Reinforcement of the Custom

The code of conduct will contain a caution section, and officers highlighted in the first evaluation will receive written warnings for acting outside of the established norms. I will approve a notice which indicates what police should do during the initial six months to update their behaviors and correct their practices. Every six months, everyone will receive regular coaching on the legislation, with a focus on the regulations that are breached more often (Prenzler, 2021). After the time frame, I will implement the law, and any person found acting contrary to the established norm will be sternly penalized.

Conclusion

Policemen should not allow immoral behavior to jeopardize their responsibilities. Officers must safeguard their relationships with the local people who depend on them to abide by the rules and keep the peace. The standard guideline’s goal is to ensure that agency employees behave with the utmost decency and respect while they perform their ordinary operations. Police officers should also be under a supervisor and charged if they go against the laws.
