Summary
Over the years, humans have been struggling to observe their weight by getting involved in body exercises that are believed to maintain body shape and avoid the risk of getting obese. However, it is not easy to continue with gym exercises and the expenses that come with it. Therefore, there have emerged different dietary methods that help in weight loss. They involve watching whatever you intake daily as well as the amounts. The following are some of the currently trending diets that have significant effects in shedding pounds; however, the discourse will focus on the Mediterranean diet.
The Keto diet also called the Ketogenic diet plan; involves taking meals with fewer carbs, numerous healthy fats and average proteins. This nutrition plan supports weight loss by lowering carb intake, it boosts metabolism and reducing an individual’s appetite (“The skinny,” 2021). Another trending diet is vegan; this method of dieting plan consumes only plant-based food. It has a lot of restrictions which makes the guidelines difficult to follow unless there is a company involved. The vegan diet promotes weight loss through reduced fat and calorie intake and taking fiber-based meals, which lowers obesity (“The skinny,” 2021). However, this dieting plan can subject a person to some risks, such as unhealthy weight gain and the risk of nutritional deficiency.
The Mediterranean Diet
This type of eating plan has been trending in the recent past and is mainly recommended by doctors. It helps reduce a person’s ability to risk getting diseases such as heart disease, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol and avoid certain cancer and chronic diseases. It is a plant-based diet that involves taking a lot of legumes, fruits and vegetables, nuts, fish, and olive oil and reducing the intake of red meat, dairy products, and red wine (“The skinny,” 2021). Prolonged use of this dieting method for six months or longer can lead to a loss of about 2.8 kg a year.
This dietary method is healthy to implement, and it is efficient when it comes to reducing obesity. Some of the advantages of this diet include improving mental health, and preventing cancer. It is a way of averting and managing diabetes and promoting weight loss due to the low carbohydrate intake (“The skinny,” 2021). This nutrition plan also has several disadvantages; some food may be cost-ineffective, the dietary restrictions are difficult to follow, and it may also lack some nutrients necessary for metabolism.
