Education With Regard to Globalization Issues

Introduction

It is necessary to indicate the essence of the learning process and the major aspects touched upon education in different countries presented by different cultures and traditions. Reforms that take place in education are aimed at improving the learning process for students; training the teachers so that they were able to meet students’ expectations and provide them with appropriate guidelines. The learning about the process of globalization becomes more and more results-oriented; it is important to make students able to acquire knowledge and to choose relevant information by themselves. Many countries that had certain national approaches to the system of education have adopted the reforms in the sector of education to meet the requirements of the global community and allow their students to achieve higher goals with regard to global perspectives.

Learning Environments in Brazil, Qatar, and China

Similarities with the learning experience of the US student

China has shifted the role of the government in the education and educational structure; moreover, the reforms started in education as involvement of individuals, organizations and willing parties to reestablish new methods and ways of educational organization (Mok, 2006, p. 103). The change made Chinese students able to acquire information during learning at school and enabled them to continue high school education in different privately owned schools as claimed by Hong Zheng, Principal of Dandelion School in China (“Learning happens”, China, Middle School). As soon as the system of middle grades has been established for most students the education of China became more similar to that existing in the United States of America.

Qatar saw different changes in education as well. The education reform started in 2004 in Qatar and was aimed at shifting the roles of teachers and students in the learning process. From the perspective of the educational manager working in Qatar (“Learning happens”, Qatar, Educational Manager), the students are suggested to participate in learning in order to gain experience. Before the reform, school was regarded by parents as a place to keep children, whereas they try to be more involved in the learning process and to facilitate gaining experience of their children. The learning became more coaching/mentoring approach rather than teaching as most people see it. Students are encouraged to participate in discussions rather than just memorizing what they are told; exploration and research are additional principles adopted in Qatar with educational perspective.

The education in Brazil is divided territorially and should be regarded separately taking into consideration each of two locations. According to Verspoor (2008, p. 125), the economic diversities can be easily identified in education in these areas. The areas that can be considered more successful are demonstrating some progress and Europe and the United States systems of education orientation. Another side of the Brazilian education is presented by economically poor areas where the education is the concept affordable by rich people only.

Major differences in learning

 The major differences appear in the sector of learning. Thus, in Qatar there are separate sections for men and women as well as in China there are fewer opportunities for women, especially in the rural areas, to receive education equal to the one received by male population. The United States gives people equal opportunities concerning gender diversity. Brazilian education should be regarded from two different points of view because economic situation made the diversities existing in education in different areas of the country visible. The Chinese system of education appears to be an exams-oriented one, whereas Brazilian educators try to make students share their experience and educational establishments serve like home for students (“Learning happens”, Higher Education Perspective).

Data, Comment, and Practice Beneficial to Learning

Implementing concepts from other cultures

It is really important to share experience in all branches of science and technology, education should be regarded as an opportunity to exchange some information that can be beneficial for the representatives of the global community. Some cultures have some concepts that are missing in different cultures. Education is a unique method of teaching students to be able to select information and put it into practice with respect to existing concepts and traditional techniques of learning.

How to learn more about other cultures

Other cultures have some experience in learning and education that should be shared. Exchanging knowledge can be considered one of the most appropriate ways to learn more about other cultures. Conferences, meetings, technological progress and innovations are aimed at developing the understanding of other cultures’ concepts and traditions and implementing some of them to make the system of education more global-oriented.

Conclusion

Education is very important for representatives of the modern global community as would-be professionals and labor force. People should receive higher education about certain specializations as well as basic knowledge in different subjects. Representatives of different cultures should share experiences existing in their native cultures to create a unique set of information so that the global community could use this experience.
