Developed countries have sophisticated institutions operating to maintain prosperity and expand the opportunities for their populations to receive high-quality education and healthcare for free. The financial aspect of these conditions includes considerable taxes for the citizens, and not every individual supports such a requirement from the public system. However, the benefits of the accessibility of healthcare and education cannot be underestimated, and in my opinion, they outweigh the disadvantages.
Indeed, healthcare and education are the institutions that involve every citizen; thus, their development and maintenance require continuous investments. People or organizations might perceive the solution to raise taxes as inconvenient and inappropriate because they do not use these public systems frequently. However, the ability to reach out for high-quality healthcare when necessary or to provide a child with the appropriate education to make them a decent member of society are valuable outcomes. My experience of receiving paid health-related services in a country where the taxes are relatively low cost me a lot more than a monthly deduction to the functioning of the public system could.
Furthermore, the requirement to pay high taxes makes the citizens more responsible for their country, its internal development, and its international image. People demand the government report how their finances are allocated, decreasing corruption risks. Citizens who invest in their nation’s prosperity through the high taxes would not allow the healthcare system to be damaged or the educational one to not address the current employment needs. For example, Scandinavian countries such as Iceland and Norway charge considerable taxes from their population, yet the latter provides high-quality healthcare essential for their well-being.
In summary, high taxes have more benefits than drawbacks for the citizens as the payments are allocated to develop essential systems, such as healthcare and education. Institutions, such as hospitals and schools, require continuous investment to maintain the high quality of their services. Citizens benefit from good and accessible healthcare services and educational opportunities, and taxation is the most convenient approach to involve every individual equally.
